Black Joe Jackson: Southern Black Folk Artist
Presented to you by his friend Black Joe Jackson was born in Georgia in 1920to a poor sharecropper's family. He was namedfor a baseball player "Shoeless Joe Jackson".Joe was nicknamed by his friends "Black" cause he was too dark to sing in his black choir.He served in WWII and was wounded and forrecovery began to paint. He has worked doingodd jobs and painting houses. Joe took up hispainting full time after retirement.He lived for years after his wife's death with his cats. He nowlives with one of his two daughters and their kids. He paints on found wood a wide range of scenes depicting stories about his family, friends,and his pets.His work is sold to select galleriesin the Eastern U.S. and several museums havedisplayed him.
